LAUNDRY ROOM ESSENTIALS
Gone are the days of lugging a washing basket out to the garage, as mudrooms and laundry spaces have become an integral place in the house and feel more designed and personal to the homeowner. While laundry can often be a mundane task, why not make it feel a little more exciting with materials and a splash of colour? This ocean-blue tile-clad laundry room, complete with a farm sink and built-in bench, is a great example of that.
The washer and dryer were originally in the location of the sink, but we re-homed them in a closet opposite this feature wall. It made better use of the space and allowed us to install a countertop with upper and lower storage and a mudroom bench with open shelving. The garage door and back entry both lead in here, so this is a great spot to kick off shoes before properly entering the home.
The tiles are handmade and have a variation in the glaze which means there’s a slight tonal difference between each tile. This gives the overall backsplash more interest and movement. We paired this with a cool grey colour for the lowers and a soft white for the upper cabinets. This played into what was done in the kitchen remodel.
Since the lockdown, we’ve seen a shift in people enjoying a slower paced living after being forced to spend more time at home. This has triggered people finding beauty in the everyday tasks that would otherwise feel like a chore. Along with more photos of this happy space, we’ve included some of our favourite laundry essentials below.
